Sunday’s School Prep
April 15, 2007
Sundays are usually homeschool prep days for me. Time to make the copies, order library resources and check the lesson plans for the week. The end of 3rd grade is coming up for the girls. We’re right on target to finish everything I had planned for the year. So what’s on the agenda for the week?
We use the Math-U-See program. This week we’ll be working on division by 10.
From Natural Speller I’ve compiled a list of 14 words for the week including because, aloud, steal, steel, dream, agree, between and beside.
We’ll also be continuing our unit study on India. We’ll continue reading Indira Gandhi : daughter of India by Carol Dommermuth-Costa. We made paper mache bangals last week that we’ll paint this week. We also made puppets last week as part of our study so we’ll finish those up and maybe have a puppet show. I’m also planning to read more about the Hindu religion and the part it plays in India, learn more about animals that inhabit the region, cook a few recipes from our Indian cook book and maybe eat in an Indian restaurant if we can get out for lunch one day this week.
Finally, we’re gearing up for the annual testing. I’m not a big fan of testing but I think it’s important to learn test taking skills. Since we’re our state law requires some testing as part of the annual assessment anyhow, we’ll take advantage of the opportunity to learn the best strategies to tackle those mulitple choice questions. The girls don’t love taking the practice tests but they enjoy going over them orally together, fighting over who will answer and explain how they arrived at their answer.
So that’s the general plan for the week

I love reading about what others do with homeschooling. I do a lot of supplmenting with my kids and love to hear what others do. Now, if I could just figure out how to get in 2 Saturdays and Sundays instead of 1 I’d be hooked! LOL
Hugs,
